The fast bowler Set to Play a Key Part in Iconic Rivalry

Australian cricket captain

Pat Cummins has claimed 309 wickets in 71 five-day games with an average of 22.10.

The Australian chair of selectors the selector has confirmed that pace spearhead Cummins will be a central figure in the forthcoming England-Australia contest.

There were concerns that the veteran bowler might sit out due to a persistent back stress problem that was still troubling him.

Initial reports from team management suggested no definitive call had been made regarding whether he would play, with the extended contest set to start on November 21 in Perth.

He revealed that the captain is progressing and felt positive about his chances of taking part.

"We're aware that the window is narrowing and various factors involved, not only the back issue, but additional elements," he commented.

"It's positive. There's strong faith that he's going to play a significant role. Ideally starting in Perth. Should that not happen, we'll reassess."

Previous Setbacks

He was sidelined the ODI and T20 games against India and New Zealand last month after examinations confirmed a lower back issue.

Previous incidents include of back injuries, with flare-ups in several earlier campaigns forcing him out of three Australian summers in a short span.

The bowler mentioned he would be proactive in his approach in his rehabilitation process to ensure his availability for the contest.

He mentioned that it was unclear if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his comeback but admitted it was "pressing" for him to be fit for the initial match.

Alternative Arrangements

In case of absence, veteran batsman Smith will assume leadership.

All-rounder Cameron Green was recently pulled out from the ODI lineup for their ODI contests against India as a safety move because of discomfort in his torso.

He labeled it as a "minor" injury and stated that Green will play in the state-level matches, so will be "ideally positioned to be ready to bowl."

"Extensive planning has gone into developing the strategy for him to take part for the first Test as an batting and bowling option," the selector detailed.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the starting games anyway. The way he swings the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, if it causes any delay for 24 more hours, we opted to take a cautious route."
