Major Russian Attacks Cut Electricity Across Kyiv

Power facilities targeted in Ukraine
Ukraine's power facilities have faced increased strikes in the past few days

Overnight, Russian missile and drone strikes have led to power cuts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Nine people were injured while residents in the city's east were left without electricity and dealt with disruption to drinking water, per reports from municipal leaders.

Simultaneously, a minor was lost their life in a separate aerial attack in the Zaporizhzhia area in the southeastern part, as reported by local officials.

Russian forces has escalated strikes on power infrastructure over recent weeks, while officials has requested "real steps" from allies to apply pressure on Russia.

"What is required is not superficial actions but firm measures - from the America, European nations and the G7 - in delivering protection systems and applying penalties," mentioned in a public message.

Authorities reported that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and more than 30 rockets targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure, labeling such strikes as "cynical and calculated" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as temperatures become colder.

Energy officials said Russia was "launching a major assault" and maintenance teams were striving to repair systems.

A barrage of missiles hit power facilities and apartment buildings in the capital.

Five out of the nine people injured in the attacks on the capital have been taken to hospital, according to municipal representatives.

Regional authorities said the metropolitan region endured intense attacks throughout the evening. A seven-year-old child was killed and several individuals were injured.

The attacks follow evenings of aerial attacks in the area, parts of which are currently controlled by Moscow's military.

The whole nation is on alert for sophisticated projectile assaults, which are harder to spot.

Government officials told reporters that Russia was intentionally trying to demolish the country's energy grid, with assaults already impacting fuel infrastructure.

He said technical personnel and government agencies were preparing for additional strikes.
